Dr Chris Laing is a consultant nephrologist and associate medical director for patient safety at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. He is an honorary senior lecturer in nephrology at UCL.
He trained in internal medicine and nephrology and undertook intermediate training in critical care. He also undertook a research fellowship with UCL and INSERM Paris. His professional interest is improving outcomes in acute kidney injury.
He was an advisor on NCEPOD AKI and a guideline development group member on the NICE AKI guideline. He founded London AKI Network, which he continues to chair, and co-founded the AKI Academy. He currently leads the UCL Partners AKI collaborative and is a member of the AKI National Programme Board.
Dr Laing is involved in several AKI clinical research projects. He is renal lead for the ERICCA RCT – a large, multi-centre study examining the impact of ischaemic preconditioning on outcomes after cardiac surgery.
