Michael Jenkinson was appointed as a Consultant Neurosurgeon at The Walton Centre in 2010. Prior to this appointment he trained with the hospital for nine years spending three years as a research fellow, which culminated in a PhD.
Mr Jenkinson has studied awake craniotomy and brain mapping techniques in Liverpool, San Francisco and Montpellier. He specialises in awake craniotomy and intra-operative brain mapping for low-grade glioma, and midline approaches to deep intrinsic tumours.
His research interests include hydrocephalus and shunt infection, and brain metastases and meningiomas. Over the last five years he has been awarded ~£3.53m funding for clinical trials and laboratory research. He is a member of the National Cancer Research Institute Brain Tumour Clinical Studies Group and the academic committee of the Society of British Neurological Surgeons.
